For pin tumbler padlocks, have you ever encountered a scenario where one key can open another lock? Would you like to reduce the cross-opening rate of padlocks? The physical size and structural constraints inherently result in a higher interchangeability (cross-keying) rate. In real-world applications, especially when a large quantity of identical padlocks are deployed simultaneously, a certain percentage of cross-opening incidents is statistically probable—where the key for Lock A unintentionally opens Lock B.
In critical scenarios like SELF-STORAGE facilities, minimizing this risk is not just an improvement; it’s a necessity for maintaining trust and security.
So, how do we effectively reduce the interchangeability rate? Our targeted three-point upgrade focuses on improving key differentiation:
1.Increase Pin Count: We’ve upgraded our 40mm padlocks from 4 pins to 5 pins, and our 50mm padlocks from 5 pins to 6 pins. This expands the theoretical keying combinations, directly lowering the probability of key duplication.
2. Diversify Keyways & Introduce Laser Marking: We have increased the variety of keyway profiles. Furthermore, each lock is now marked with a unique laser-engraved key number, simplifying inventory management and enhancing traceability.
3.Guaranteed Carton Variation: Every shipping carton is packed with locks that have different key combinations. We clearly label this “Keyed Different” on the outside of each carton, ensuring immediate recognition and easier on-site distribution for our clients.
This comprehensive approach delivers a tangible upgrade in security for high-volume deployments, providing peace of mind for facility managers and end-users alike.
